Passport Requirement For Zambia Visa Exempt Countries

Travellers from visa-exempt countries must meet the following requirements before travelling to Zambia:

  • Length of Stay
    • Tourism: Up to 90 days within a 12-month period
    • Business: Up to 30 days per visit
  • Passport Validity: Must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry.
  • Travel Documents: Must hold a return ticket or proof of onward travel.
  • Purpose of Visit: Allowed for short-term tourism and business visits.

For longer stays or other purposes, travellers may need to apply for an appropriate visa or extension in accordance with Zambia’s immigration rules.

Entry Procedure 

Step 1: Arrival at Port of Entry:
Arrive at a designated airport or border checkpoint (e.g., near Victoria Falls).

Step 2: Immigration Clearance:
Present your passport (valid for at least 6 months) to the immigration officer.

Step 3: Document Verification:
You may be asked to show a return/onwards ticket, accommodation details, and sufficient funds for your stay.

Step 4: Purpose Confirmation:
Clearly state your purpose of visit (tourism or business) to ensure it aligns with visa-exempt entry conditions.

Step 5: Entry Approval & Stamp:
If approved, the officer will stamp your passport with the permitted stay duration.

Step 6: Customs Check:
Proceed with customs clearance and declare any required items in accordance with regulations.

Extension of the Stay 

Visa-exempt travellers who wish to stay longer can apply for an extension through the Zambia Department of Immigration before their permitted stay expires.

Extensions are granted on a case-by-case basis based on a valid reason. Overstaying without approval may result in fines or entry restrictions.
